Principal Research Associate/Scientist I | Discovery Biology

At Constellation Pharmaceuticals we are pushing the boundaries of our understanding of how epigenetic mechanisms control transcription in health and disease, and by so doing, we are discovering novel treatments for immune-mediated diseases and cancer. We now have an exciting opportunity for an Animal Technician who will be supporting in vivo mouse studies. You will be responsible for all in vivo studies testing a diversity of therapeutic compounds as single agents or in combination in mouse syngeneic and xenograft models for immuno-oncology drug and biomarker discovery, as well as patient selection strategies. You will independently perform tumor cell inoculations, administration of therapeutic agents via multiple routes, tumor measurements, survival and overall animal health monitoring, tissue collection, and data recording. Depending on your experience and qualifications, the laboratory responsibilities could expand to ex vivo immune cell analyses and/or PK/PD biomarker analyses and offer opportunity for growth.  We are #BrighterTogether.

How you will spend your day:

  • Conducting exploratory and pre-clinical PK, PD and efficacy studies
  • Preparing of test articles and tumor cells for in vivo administration via multiple routes
  • Sub-cutaneous tumor cell inoculation and iv infusion of primary cells
  • In vivo dosing of mice via various routes (ip, iv, sc and po)
  • Tumor growth measurements
  • Tissue harvesting (blood, tumor, lymph nodes, spleen, etc.)
  • Routine monitoring for health
  • Executing in vitro and ex vivo cell-based immunoassays to characterize the mechanism of action and activity of small molecule drugs designed to enhance anti-tumor immunity
  • Acquiring/analyzing data, report the data and troubleshoot for problems in experiments
  • Tracking and reporting study progress and status with oversight from supervisor and/or project leader
  • Accurate documentation and outstanding data recording

Key things about you:

  • Minimum 2-4 years of directly relevant lab experience in an academic or industry setting
  • Exceptional in vivo experimental skills
  • Extensive experience with mouse syngeneic and xenograft tumor models, i.e., tumor cell inoculation, mouse dosing, tissue harvesting, tumor measurements
  • Proficiency in lab animal welfare and ability to precisely follow institutional procedures and protocols
  • Overall knowledge and strict compliance with federal and institutional guidelines for animal care and use
  • Hands-on experience in multiparameter flow cytometry, ex vivo primary/immune cell isolation and culture; experience in working with cell lines and human tissue/blood samples
  • Prior experience with any of the following assays is preferred: ELISA, Western blot, Luminex assay
  • Experience with tumor tissue processing and isolation of tumor-infiltrating immune cells is desired
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent record keeping and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Flexibility in working schedule to accommodate weekend work
  • Ability to work both independently and with multiple collaborative teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • AALAS or LAT certification is preferred
  • Experience with minimally invasive surgical procedures is preferred
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive and collaborative approach to each day
  • Friendly to others, eager to work and generally a pleasure to be around
