Constellation Pharmaceuticals’ Management
Mark A. Goldsmith, M.D., Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Mark Goldsmith was announced as the president and
CEO of Constellation in August 2009. He previously held
senior executive positions in the biotechnology industry
and academia. Prior to his appointment at Constellation,
Dr. Goldsmith was Senior Executive-in-Residence at
Prospect Venture Partners, a leading healthcare venture
capital firm. Previously he served as CEO of Cogentus
Pharmaceuticals and as senior vice president leading the
health care division of Genencor International. Before
entering the private sector Dr. Goldsmith led a medical
research laboratory at the Gladstone Institute of
Virology and Immunology, practiced medicine on the
faculty of the School of Medicine of the University of
California, San Francisco and the San Francisco General
Hospital and was consultant to leading pharmaceutical
and biotechnology companies.
Garen Bohlin
Executive Vice President
Garen Bohlin became Executive Vice President of
Constellation in January 2010 and is responsible for
corporate operations and finance functions. For the past
25 years, he has held senior executive posts in leading
biotechnology companies. Most recently prior to joining
Constellation, Mr. Bohlin served as Chief Operating
Officer of Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, where he played key
roles in the general management of Sirtris, as well as
in its initial public offering, the sale of the company
to GlaxoSmithKline for over $700 million, and the
post-acquisition integration. Previously, he was the
founding CEO of Syntonix Pharmaceuticals where he
positioned the company for its eventual sale to Biogen
Idec. Earlier in his career, he held multiple executive
positions at Genetics Institute, where he played an
integral role in structuring the sale of Genetics
Institute to American Home Products (Wyeth) at an
implied valuation of approximately $3 billion.
Edward E.
Harlow, Jr., Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Harlow joins Constellation Pharmaceuticals in
October 2009 from Harvard Medical School, where he has
been Professor and Chair of the Department of Biological
Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology and Associate
Director of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. Dr.
Harlow is an internationally recognized leader in cancer
biology who is best known for his discoveries regarding
the control of cell division and critical changes that
allow cancer to develop. Previously he served as
Scientific Director for the Massachusetts General
Hospital Cancer Center and as Associate Director for
Science Policy at the National Cancer Institute, where
he helped direct U.S. cancer research planning. Among
his numerous scientific honors are election to the
National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of
Medicine, appointment as Fellow of the American Academy
of Arts and Sciences, and receipt of the American Cancer
Society’s highest award, the Medal of Honor. He has also
served on a number of advisory boards, including the
Board of Life Sciences for the National Research
Council, External Advisory Boards for UCSF, Stanford,
UCLA, and NYU Cancer Center, and Scientific Advisory
Boards for the Foundation for Advanced Cancer Studies
and several biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies,
including Onyx, Alnylam, 3V Biosciences, and Pfizer
Pharmaceuticals.
Kerry K. Reinertsen, Ph.D.
Chief Business Officer
Kerry
Reinertsen, Ph.D., joins Constellation as Chief Business
Officer in January 2010. Dr. Reinertsen is a veteran in
the Cambridge and international biotechnology industry
and has been responsible for some of the industry’s most
transformational alliances. Most recently, she served as
Vice President, Corporate and Business Development at
Vertex Pharmaceuticals where she was responsible for
strategic planning, assessment and execution of
collaborations and alliance management. Previously Dr.
Reinertsen served for eight years at Millennium
Pharmaceuticals where she led the strategic evaluation,
structuring and execution of numerous transactions
ranging from discovery collaborations to product
marketing partnerships, both domestically and
internationally. Dr. Reinertsen earned a dual A.B. in
Economics and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from
Brown University and a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry and
Molecular Pharmacology from Harvard University.
